  2. Why buildup a secured integratedeHealth infrastructure? What was the motivation of peopleto build up a railroad infrastructure? • The need of a secured and economical way to transport people and commodities to the right place at the right time! 4. Application Layer • - Added Value Services 3- Layer Model of an eHealth Infrastructure Solution Operating / Service Layer - Providing Basic Services - Management of the Infrastructure Services Services Services Services Hardware / Network Layer - WAN - Hardware Devices Operating Specific. Operating Operating

  5. Hardware and Network Layer • The Hardware and Network Layer cares for • the physical secured connection of all participants to the eHealth Infrastructure. • Connectivity • Security • Availability of the Connectivity • The hardware needed to run the services and applications • WAN • Card and Card Readers • Healthcare Connectors • Concentrators • Interoperability of all these components

  6. Operating and Service Layer • Managing and operating the eHealth Infrastructure • Cares for the functionality and availability of the eHealth Infrastructure • Management of the data center • Remote management / remote software distribution • Platform management • … • Provides services to added value service provider • Transaction management / billing • Audit service • Directory services • …. • Cares for security • Identity management • Security concept • … • Managing the Roll Out of the eHealth Infrastructure

  7. Application Layer • This is the layer where • the Solutions are running, solving the Problems of the customer like • Transparency of the issued and dispensed pharmaceuticals • Simplification of billing processes • Improved treatment • Reducing costs • Reduction of fraud • …. • Added Service Provider can offer additional Services • Contraindication and interaction check • Personal Health Record • Doctor’s Letter • Telemonitoring • Claims management • ….

  8. Roll-Out of Infrastructure Focus on implementation of technology, e.g. Electronic Health Card (EHC) Technical Utilization Dissemination of technology as a commodity for all age groups Usage of initial applications Services Development of complex product and service portfolios Added Value Services customized to the needs of various age groups eHealth Infrastructur as Precondition for an efficient Roll Out of Added Value Services Technical utilization Roll out ofinfrastructure Services Source: Frauenhofer Institut Arbeitswirtschaft und Organisation, January 2006 - 5 -

  9. Critical Success Factors • The eHeath Infrastructure Solution should be designed as an open eHealth Platform. • The more services the “Operating and Service Layer” is providing and the easier “Added Value Service Providers” can integrate them, the more applications will be offered in the Infrastructure. • The value of an eHealth Infrastructure is not the Hardware and Software, it’s the amount of useful information made available at the right place to the right person at the right time. • A good balance between usability and (data)security guaranties a high acceptance and efficiency of the solution. But take care ...
