EMU Educational Reform Practices1 • General Education Program • The aim the program is toenrich students’ experience in socio-cultural and industrial areas and introduce them to interdisciplinary studies to prepare them to a life with rich horizons. • SPIKE Activities • The aim is to make the students make the best use of the time outside classroom. For this purpose quest speakers are invited to share experiences in order to maximize student participation to conferencesand cultural activities. • Curriculum Development Studies • University Curriculum Committee has been established

EMU Educational Reform Practices4 • International Accreditation Practices As a part of the requirement of “climbing to the top quality” slogan, our education programs are opened to be under control of the international accreditation establishment. • EUA (European University Association) • AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business) • ABET (The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) • TEDQUAL (Teaching Education Quality in Tourism) • EDEXCEL (Higher National Diploma-HND-UK) • EAAE (European Association for Architectural Education) • ENHR (European Network for Housing Research) • IUA (International Association of Universities) • UK NARIC ( The National Recognition Information Center for United Kingdom) • LCCI (London Chamber Commercial Industry Examination Board) • EFMD (European Foundation For Management Development) • FUIW (Federation of University of Islamic World)

EMU Research Reform Practices1 • A Vice Rectorate for Research has been established • Mission: To infuse and develop the fact that research is a vital issue at EMU. • Research Advisory Board has been established • Mission: To make sure that research studies are qualified and productive, • to establishprinciples of research politics.

  8. What has been done? 1. Research and Graduate Studies catalogue has been published.

  9. What has been done? 2. Research Support Budget has been formed. • ADB criteria have been prepared and approved and applied by the UYK • Up to $5000 in support has been provided for successful project holders with the suitable criteria. • 16 Academic Staff have been provided with support.

Participation in 3 conferences • The importance of participation in International Scientific Conferences has been emphasized. • Conferences participation and attendance criteria have been renewed. Support for this conferences is approved by the ResearchAdvisory Boardon behalf of Rector. • Within this new application 144 academic staff and researchers have been granted support.

What has been done? • Regulations for assigning assistantships have been prepared. • Common working principles for research centers have been prepared. • There has been some progress related with instructors preparation program. Relevant principles are prepared. • Instructors who carried out research during summer time were given extra leave. http….. • Transparency was valued and for this reason all the decisions, rewards and criteria are shared through web.

  13. EMU Research Practices • The technical infrastructure for reaching information and education faster has been improved • Internet Speed has been improved up to 34 mb/h

  14. EMU Research Reform Practices2 • Wireless Internet facilities have been opened to access around specific areas on the campus (Library and CL building). The aim is to offer this service everywhere on the campus.

EMU Research Reform Practices4 • Important Reforms and Practices • By the end of 2004; a new “Database & Audio Visual Material Division” is established which has access to online databases and has a user guide. • At the begging of the 2004, Internet access lines which are 39 in general, have increased to 54. • At the beginning of 2005, EMU publications corner is established. • By September 2005, a private music room is established. • Library general collection division which was not providing service between 17:00 to 22:30 until 2004, started to be open and serve students between 17:00-22:30

Practices for Promoting and Planning EMU1 • Vice Rectorate started to be responsible for promotion, planning and the development of the university. • Mission: to carry out studies required to improve the university through findings appropriate strategies which will enabled the university to reach quality based outcomes. • Human Resources Administration Office • In service training • Performance and register regulations • Job analysis • Career Planning • Continuing Education Center • 125 different courses and seminars were held to provide service for community • 4816 people were given success or participation certificates until today • 59 different educational projects from government and private sector were signed

EMU Promotion and Planning Practices2 • Quality and Development Office: The aim is to spread and develop the quality culture within administrative divisions and to develop the quality philosophy into a continuous developing aspect. • In accordance our university has received the ISO 9001-2000 quality certificate. • Our new aim is to receive this certificate in area of administrative divisions. • This office also provides liaison and coordination with agreements and protocols made with the government and private sector, they participate in the analysis and preparation in upcoming projects, and coordinate the administrative division’s budget and productivity analysis.

EMU Promotion and Planning Practices3 • Promotions and Student Resource Administrative Office: • Its responsibilities is to provide the flow of students to the university by planning the necessary promotional activities to develop the sustainable strategies, and to update the materials used in promotional activities. To organize the promotional activities and provide coordination. • There are 9 contact bureaus in the whole of Turkey. • International Center: • To provide the flow of international students to the university and to help in the registration process. • To give guidance and support to international students. • To provide EMU diploma equivalency in the International arena, and to assist in the signing of academic protocols.

EMU Rules Reform Practices • A new EMU law is being prepared. • With the help of academic union the continuous personnel status has been given to the academicians who completed six years at the university and the change has been done in Academic personnel by-law. • Academic Performance Evaluation Rules are being prepared to improve quality and productivity in education research and service to the university and society. • The performance evaluation for non-academic staff has been prepared and put into practices.
