What is a simile? • A simile is a comparison between two unlike things using the words like, as, than, or resembles. • Ex: Her eyes are as blue as the sky.
What is a metaphor? • A metaphor is a comparison of two unlike things by saying one thing IS something else. • Ex: The classroom was an oven.
Practice: • The sand was little needles pricking my feet when I walked along the beach. • Metaphor: the sand WAS little needles.
Practice: • The runner was as fast as a hare when he crossed the finish line. • Simile: the runner was AS fast AS a hare.
