  3. Assessment Type Educators assess young children to see how they are developing and to ensure how the programs children attend contribute to the children’s growth. (Highscope, 2014) ***The Assessment given to your child will be interactive with the classroom teacher. ***The teacher will record on paper how your child performed recognizing -The Alphabet -Numbers 1-10 -Shapes: triangles, squares, circles, and diamond -Drawing a picture of themselves

Administration of Assessment • The classroom teacher will show the letters of the alphabet, numbers, and shapes on cards to the student. • The teacher will then record the letter, numbers, and shapes the students know. • The assessment will be given to the student the first week of September, January, and May.

  5. Legal Considerations • The results of the assessment will be shared with the parents or legal guardians of the students, as well as other grade level teachers and support staff • The primary reasons for assessment are to screen for disabilities, to assess kindergarten readiness; to assist in developing curriculum and daily activities; to evaluate the effectiveness of a project or a program; and to provide feed back to parents. (Bowers, 2014)

  6. Involvement • Parent teacher conferences will be held in October and March to review your child’s assessment. • Parents are encouraged to help their child with their daily homework. • Volunteers such as tutors from our community will be able to help students after school.

  7. Expectations/ Outcomes • The assessment given to your child will assist us in monitoring your child's progress, as well as creating individualized instructional level, targeting areas in need of improvement. • The assessment will be used to help us ensure that your child is reaching his/her academic potential.

  8. Interactive Activity • Parents please join us in reviewing the assessment. • Completed surveys will be greatly appreciated.
