Examples • Describing someone as a "Romeo" makes an allusion to the famous young lover in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. • Darla didn’t like to spend money. She was no Scrooge, but she was thrifty.
to meet one’s Waterloo (allusion on Napoleons defeat in the Battle of Waterloo) • to wash one’s hands of it.
