What Was The Blizzard of 1888? • It happened from March 11-14, 1888 • This was the worst recorded blizzard in the history of the United States. • Temperatures were around 9 degree Fahrenheit. • Winds were blowing at 40 miles per hour. • Snow drifts covered three story buildings.
What States Were Effected? • There were 20-70 inches of snowfall in: • New Jersey • New York (hit the worst) • Massachusetts • Connecticut
Transportation • Railroads were shut down. 15,000 people were stuck on trains. • People were stuck inside their homes for as long as a week. • 200 ships were grounded or wrecked.
