Asia Pacific: Level Rising The Asia Pacific region has been participating in Bocuse d’Or since 2008, with the territory expanding to Australia for the first time this year. “The level has been rising consistently over the years, and the jury was impressed by the overall high standards and level of professionalism,” says Jerome Bocuse, Jury President.
Rules Similar to Finals According to Otto Weibel, President of Bocuse d’Or Asia Pacific, the pace of growth of this culinary maturity is such that Japan reached the podium in third place at the 2013 grand finale, a very impressive showing. This culinary maturity has also led to changes in the rules: “For the first time, Asia Pacific participants competed under similar rules as the final in Lyon, France next year,” he said.
After two intense days of competition Hideki Takayama of Japan triumphed over eight competitors, winning the honour of representing the Asia Pacific region at the Bocuse d’Or finals in 2015 in Lyon. Second place went to Eng Tong Yew of Singapore, and the third place finalist was Kenneth Loke of Malaysia. Best commis prize went to Aaron Chee Yee Wong of Singapore. Two additional countries have been selected to participate in the finals in Lyon, based on their placement in this round: these are Australia and South Korea, which came fourth and fifth, respectively. In total, nine countries were represented in the Asia-Pacific round: Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Sri Lanka.
