  2. SENTENCE vs. PARAGRAPH • How is a sentence different from a paragraph? Compare: • Alex is a good student. (sentence) • Alex is a good student. He is always well prepared for his lessons. During class, he always pays attention to the teacher. When he returns home, he reviews the notes and does all his homework. Every teacher would like to have students like Alex. (paragraph)

  3. Paragraph Structure A paragraph is a group of sentences combined by a main idea. In each paragraph, there is only one main idea. A paragraph consists of three kinds of sentences: the topic sentence, the supporting sentences, and the concluding sentence.
