Signs that My Commitment to God is Less Than Whole Hearted Hosea10:1-5
Hosea 10:1-5 (NIV) 1 Israel was a spreading vine; he brought forth fruit for himself. As his fruit increased, he built more altars; as his land prospered, he adorned his sacred stones. 2 Their heart is deceitful, and now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will demolish their altars and destroy their sacred stones. 3 Then they will say, "We have no king because we did not revere the LORD. But even if we had a king, what could he do for us?" 4 They make many promises, take false oaths and make agreements; therefore lawsuits spring up like poisonous weeds in a plowed field. 5 The people who live in Samaria fear for the calf-idol of Beth Aven. Its people will mourn over it, and so will its idolatrous priests, those who had rejoiced over its splendor, because it is taken from them into exile.
Point # 1 My commitment to God is less than whole hearted if something or someone has equal or greater importance in my heart than God. Hosea 10:1-2 (NIV) 1 Israel was a spreading vine; he brought forth fruit for himself. As his fruit increased, he built more altars; as his land prospered, he adorned his sacred stones. 2 Their heart is deceitful, and now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will demolish their altars and destroy their sacred stones.
Point # 2 My commitment to God will be less than whole hearted if I don’t understand all that God can do for me. Hosea 10:3 (NIV) 3 Then they will say, "We have no king because we did not revere the LORD. But even if we had a king, what could he do for us?"
Point # 3 My commitment to God is less than whole hearted as evidenced by my lying tongue. Hosea 10:4 (NIV) 4 They make many promises, take false oaths and make agreements; therefore lawsuits spring up like poisonous weeds in a plowed field.
Point # 4 My commitment to God is less than whole hearted if my heart is hard to the things of God and tender to other things. Hosea 10:3 (NIV) 3 Then they will say, "We have no king because we did not revere the LORD. But even if we had a king, what could he do for us?" Hosea 10:5 (NIV) 5 The people who live in Samaria fear for the calf-idol of Beth Aven. Its people will mourn over it, and so will its idolatrous priests, those who had rejoiced over its splendor, because it is taken from them into exile.
What does your commitment to God look like? Does it look like what it should look like or does it look more like the half hearted commitment of the Israelites.God desires that your commitment be total-to love Him with all your heart, your mind and your soul. Are you at that point today?
