Queen’s University and Cancer Research UK have joined forces to launch a science video competition to inspire the next generation of cancer researchers. If you are an AS Level Biology student living in Northern Ireland you can take part. Entries can come from individuals or groups of up to four. The winning entry will receive £400, second place will receive £200. The first place winner will also be invited to assist CCRCB researchers in delivering interactive engagement activities at the Northern Ireland Science Festival in February. Shortlisted students will be invited to attend a day at the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology at Queen’s University. You will have a chance to spend time in the labs, learning techniques used in cancer research relevant to the A Level Biology specification, such as PCR and DNA extraction. There will also be a career speed dating session with researchers involved in different areas of cancer research. The closing date for entries is 5pm on 12 December2014. Shortlisted entrants will be notified by 16 January 2015. The student’s day at CCRCB will take place on World Cancer Day, 4 February 2015. Winners will be announced on the day.
