  1. a bit about ADJECTIVES in French

  2. Just to make sure you know what an adjective is... • An adjective describes a noun. In English, adjectives go before their noun, for example, a red car, an interesting story, a pretty girl. • You can use an adjective after “to be”, to describe a noun or a pronoun. The car is red, the story is interesting, she is pretty.

  3. Position of adjectives in French • Most adjectives in French go AFTER the noun they describe. • J’ai une voiture rouge. • J’ai lu un livre intéressant. • However, some very common ones PRECEDE their noun.

  4. Adjectives which precede their noun • petit J’ai un petit frère. • grand Il a un grand frère. • joli C’est une jolie fille. • beau C’est un beau garçon. • jeune Un jeune chat est un chaton. • vieux C’est un vieux bâtiment. • bon J’ai lu un bon livre. • mauvais Le prof punit le mauvais élève. • nouveau J’ai un nouveau prof de maths.
