Collaborative Approaches to Developing Assessment and Support Materials for NQGAs TranSETT ProjectTransforming Scottish Education Through Technology
Overview • Background • Approach • Outputs • Impact • Discussion
Background • SQA, SFEU and COLEG have formed a partnership to create technology enhanced resources for new NQGA awards. • An ESF project bid for the creation of innovative new resources over a variety of curriculum areas has been submitted. • This project will build on experience of HN Modernisation and in particular of ESF funding to support development of support materials. • April 08 - March 2011. • ESF funding not confirmed. • Support materials will be created over the three years for up to 66 NQGA awards.
Partnership • SQA have responsibility for overall management and administration of the project and e-assessment production. • COLEG have responsibility forproduction of e-learning materials and paper-based Teaching & Learning packs. • SFEU will develop training programmes and workshops for Qualification Design Teams (QDT) and Centre staff involved in creation of e-assessments and Support materials.
Outputs • 66 redesigned and modernised NQGA awards. • E-assessments for nearly 200 units • More than 100 packs of e-learning materials for mandatory units within high uptake NQGAs. • More than 100 Student and Tutor Guides for mandatory units within high uptake NQGAs. • Training for staff in centres developing or delivering new on-line learning or assessment materials. • Collaborative approach to development and use of materials that helps to develop and share good practice.
Technology enhanced resources – SQA/COLEG • Scottish OnLine Assessment Resources (Solar)- Objective-type questions- Pre-moderated and guaranteed on delivery.- Curriculum areas already developed for HN include: Computing, Care, Engineering, Languages, Sports. • Web-based learning resources- www.e-learning-computing.com
SFEU • Training progammes/workshops for Qualification Design Teams (QDT) and Centre staff involved in content creation. • Through these workshops the QDT will consider the option of technology-enhanced resources for each qualification at the design stage. • The workshops will also ensure a consistent approach through the lifecycle of qualification development from initial scoping to delivery.
Impact • Overall aim of the project is to widen access, enhance learner experience and increase flexibility through: • Embedding the principles of innovative learning and assessment methods into new NQGA design and development. • Increasing the amount of learning resources available to learners. • Significantly improving the flexibility and availability of learning and assessment materials.
Impact • Increasing the capacity of centres to develop and deliver new ICT based learning and assessment materials. • Using technology based resources to increase access for distance learners. • Enhancing cross-sectoral collaboration in qualification development and delivery. • Upskilling centre involved in designing and delivering new qualifications using ICT.
