What Is PerformancePoint Services? • PerformancePoint Services (PPS) 2010 is the next-generation Performance Management (PM) application from Microsoft • Delivered as a SharePoint 2010 service application • Provides rich KPI and scorecard definitions • Delivers interactive dashboard capabilities in a zero-footprint Web browser • A migration path from PPS 2007 is supported PerformancePoint Services is commonly referred to as PPS

What Are the Developer Opportunities? • Using the SharePoint Server 2010 SDK, developers can extend the native functionality of PPS • Create report, filter, and tabular data source extensions • Custom extensions typically include three components: • Server-side renderer or provider • Editor application • Extension metadata • Create scorecard transforms • Transforms change the appearance, contents, or functionality of scorecards • Before querying the data source • After querying the data source • Before rendering the scorecard in the Web Part • Create custom Web Parts • Create custom Web Parts that can send data to or receive data from PPS Web Parts

New FeaturesPie Charts • Implemented as a new Report Type for the analytic reports • Displays single and multiple pie charts • Maximum of 25 per page • Contextual information is available when hovering over the pie slices • Supports all Analytic Chart interactivity features Consider carefully whether pie charts will provide the most effective visualization of your data; bar charts often will better convey the meaning in your data.
