Course Summary • Out and back • Start and finishes on the J-Track • Short section on grass – likely to be muddy • First runner will finish 10.30 • Last runner up to 11.30 • All runners keep left until last 2km (then right) • 2 way runners in Burnetts Lane 10.15-10.45 • Dean Road estate have runners 10.20-11.20

WHAT DO THE SERVICE TEAMS DO? PARKING Oversee on site parking Establish drop off zone Close school gates 15 min before race REGISTRATION Give out race numbers and timing chips Register on the day entries Register any number swaps Pass entries/changes to Sport Systems Collect timing chips at finish Give out goody bags BAGGAGE Collect baggage from runners Store in logical sequence Return baggage to runners INFO Provide directions to runners Provide information about the race Look after race documentation Post results
WHAT DO THE COURSE TEAMS DO? SCHOOL COURSE Set up the start finish area Set up the course in the school Ensure runners safety in school Keep pedestrians off course Clear all debris ROAD COURSE Set up race signs on the course Give clear instructions to the runners Warn and advise drivers approaching the course Clear all signs and debris WATER Set up water station in course Give out water to runners on the course Clear all debris
WHAT DO THE EXTERNAL TEAMS DO? WILLIAM FORD TM Install all road closure and diversion signs Operate traffic lights Keep in contact with race control Clear all road closure and diversion signs SAINT JOHN AMBULANCE Provide medical support for the race SJA personnel out on the road course SJA personnel at Start/Finish in school Ambulance will be stationed somewhere on the course RAYNET Radio communications throughout course Central communication point in school Operators at all road junctions
BEING A MARSHAL • Check in on time • Attend your team briefing • Make sure you understand your duties • Communicate clearly • Keep calm • KEEP SAFE
BEING A MARSHAL Personal Safety • Dress for the weather • Comfortable footwear • Drinks and snacks • Hi-viz vest to be warn by all marshals • Never stand in front of vehicles • Don’t get into arguments!
BEING A MARSHAL Good Practice • Stand where you are visible (but safe) • Be CLEAR in your directions • Never stand in front of runners or vehicles • Whistles are only for warnings • Be encouraging to all runners • Make sure your area is clear of debris • Return all the items you have been given
BEING A MARSHAL Service Teams • Need to check in by 8.10 • Team briefs are at 8.15 • Be patient – runners can be anxious
BEING A MARSHAL Course Marshals • You must check in by 8.45 AT LATEST • Team briefings are at 9.00 • You may need to take signs out on course • Only sound the whistle if you need to warn • Never stand in front of vehicles • Be clear about your directions to runners/drivers • Please be encouraging/supportive/cheery!!!
ROAD CLOSURES ETC • Dell Close, Dean Road, Fir Tree Lane and Burnetts Lane (between Fir Tree and Moorgreen Stables) are CLOSED TO THROOUGH TRAFFIC • Allington Lane is CLOSED TO NORTHBOND TRAFFIC between Fir Tree Lane and Dean Road – southbound will be taken on the righthand side. • Access to businesses MUST be maintained. • Marshals will assist at points beyond the course and be present on drives where emerging drivers need to be aware of restrictions.
ROAD ORDER • The order should prevent through traffic • Residents are entitled to reasonable access • All traffic must be told to proceed with care • Whilst we have two way runners try to persuade vehicles not to proceed • Use the whistles for warning • Emergency vehicles should not be allowed straight onto the course • You cannot enforce the order • Note down registration numbers if you have concerns • Ask drivers to use diversion signs and not Sat Nav
SAFEGUARDING OUR JUNIOR RUNNERS • All junior runners will have yellow backed numbers • Don’t attempt to treat any injured junior runner • Let Race Control know if there is an issue with a junior runner immediately. • Ask the runner if they are accompanied so that we can get in touch with the accompanying adult • Stay by the runner until we get help to you. • If you have any concerns please report them. 1000
Communication • Be clear when communicating • Carry a mobile phone • Always state your location • Marshals contact Team Leaders • Team Leaders contact Race Control • RAYNET operators can assist communication • Make notes on your position sheet • Log any incidents back at the school
