Research Opportunities • Freshman year: Area A MATH & Area D Sciences • Algebra or better if you're ready • BIOL 1107 & 1108 preferred • Sophomore year: QM in fall & RM in Spring • PSYC 3070, Quantitative Methods 4 hours • PSYC 3080, Research Methods 4 Hours • Junior year: at  least one upper level lab • Social, Cognition, Abnormal, or Neuroscience • Senior year: a quality project and a conf presentation • Senior Honors thesis or Reading/Research

Area A: Essential Skills • Area A1: Communication Skills (6 hours) • ENGL 1101 & 1102  • Must have a C in each • Complete by 30 hours = first year! • Area A2: Quantitative Skills (3 hours) • MATH 1111 or better • Must earn a C to move on to MATH 2400 • Our QM (Psyc Stats) class is Algebra based

Area C: Humanities / Fine Arts (6 Hours) • Literature (3 hours) • See bulletin for a list of courses & descriptions • ENGL 2111, 2112, 2121, 2122, 2131, 2132, 2135, 2140, 2150, 2160 • Fine Arts / Philosophy (3 hours) • See bulletin for a list of courses & description • ART (1100, 2510, 2520, 2050), MUSC 1100, FILM (1100, 2301, 2302), THEA 2500, PHIL (2010, 2200)

Area D: Science, Math, & Technology (11 Hours) • 2 lab based Sciences* (8 hours) • BIOL 1107 & 1108 are preferred • CHEM or PHYS is also a good option • MATH/CSCI/GISC (3 hours) • MATH (1113, 1450, 2040, 2400, 2460, 2510), CSCI (1250, 1301, 1371), GISC (2011 and 2011L) *If you plan to be a science minor (e.g., Biol - those intro sequences will be a part of your minor and you will need 8 additional hours of lab-based sciences to fulfill Area D.

AREA F: Appropriate to Psych (18 hrs.) • PSYC 1101, Intro to Psychology (prerequisite to all others) • PSYC 2103, Human Growth & Development • 1000-2000 PSYC Course (3 hours) • PSYC 1002, 1102, 2101 • Three electives appropriate to psych at the 1/2000 level (3 hours) • Additional Science, Math, Computer Science or Foreign Language is recommended *PSYC classes must be Cs or better

Area G: Major Courses (27 hours) Required Courses: • Sophomore year:  • PSYC 3070 (4hrs), Quantitative Methods, fall • PSYC 3080 (4hrs), Research Methods, spr • Junior year: Take at least one of these with a lab after completing Research Methods (offered as 4hr course on alternate semesters) • PSYC 3150, Social (4Fall/3Spring)  • PSYC 3310, Cognition (3Fall/4Spring) • PSYC 3530, Abnormal (4Fall/3Spring) • PSYC 4230, Neuroscience (3Fall/4Spring) • (area D science pre-req & PSYC 1102 pre-req)

Minor     • PSYCHOLOGY requires a minor.  • Minors are specified by each department so check the catalog and get a minor advisor. • Most minors require 5 or 6 classes. • usually 1-2 lower level required courses • the rest as 3-4000 level elective courses • some minors have many more requirements • look in the undergraduate catalog for more info!

  17. Open Electives • You still need 6 hours of coursework to reach 120 hours for your degree! These classes can be any course you get a letter grade for.... i.e. • French 1001 (3 hours) • Badminton (1 hour) • Neuroscience Lab (1 hour) if you took an extra lab course

  18. PIN #s • Get your PIN for registration (Fall advisement = Spring registration PIN, but Spring advisement = Fall & Summer PINs!). • Email these to yourself in case you need to make adjustments later in the year.  • Your PIN for dropping is a different # and will not be available until after drop/add ends
