Enterprise Social Networking Tool Comparison Methodology • Assembled team consisting of leaders of 3 ongoing pilots • Evaluate 3 social media tools that we deem could be easily implementable in the agency • Decided to use Jive, Lotus Connections, and Liferay based on a vendor presentation, current relationship with IBM products, and a open source product that could be program to meet our overall criteria • Process • Identify EPA’s Business Requirements • Evaluate Each Tool’s Ability to meet each requirement • Score Each Tool • Make Recommendation October 2010

Communities / Projects – Create and participate in “Communities of Interest” based on common business needs. Document and File sharing – Post and share documents, pictures, videos, bookmarks, etc.) Forums – Create and participate in on-line discussions. Search and Discovery – Search profiles, communities, projects, and discussion forums based on key terms. Enterprise Social Networking Tool Comparison Overview of Pilot Projects Jive Pilot (Region 8) Jive version used 4.5 • Jive was demonstrated to EPA R8 in mid July 2010 • We decided to pilot the Jive software and start using in July 2010 • Found out that EPA HQ would like to include our pilot in and overall comparison study of social media tools in mid September 2010 • Our goal in piloting (still ongoing) Jive • Determine if we could track high priority activities for internal and external communications • Determine if we could use the Social Media tool for real-time communications • Find out if we could really have a tool that could break down walls and silos if used • Determine if the tool was easy to use, scalable, brainless (but extremely effective and functional) October 2010

Provides a rich social profile that facilitates stronger networks, enabling our employees to tap into expertise across the Regional Office. It enables us to locate people and expertise using a tag cloud. Creates Communities enabling users to create, find, join and work with people who share a common interest, responsibility, or area of expertise. Facilitates sharing of files for quick storage and retrieval of file attachments; these attachments can be rated, tagged, and searched to provide significant shared value. Is integrated with our current suite of collaboration tools: Websphere Portal, Lotus Notes, Sametime. October 2010

Enterprise Social Networking Tool Comparison Scoring and Findings Jive : 86 Connections: 114 Liferay: 68 Lotus Connections slightly surpassed the other tools in breadth of functionality, security, and interoperability with EPA’s existing email and portal systems. These factors, combined with the stability and strong market position of IBM make Lotus Connections a good choice as an Enterprise Social Networking standard for EPA. October 2010
