  1. LINUX MINT

  2. Introduction • Linux Mint is a computer operating system designed to work on most modern systems, including typical x86 and x64 PC’s. Linux Mint can be thought of as filling the same role as Microsoft's Windows, Apple's • Mac OS, and the free BSD OS. Linux Mint is also designed to work in conjunction with other operating systems (including those listed above), and can automatically set up a “dual boot” or “multi-boot” environment (where the user is prompted as to which operating system to start at each boot-up) during its installation. • Linux Mint is a great operating system for individuals and for companies.

  3. Advantages • Mint works straight out of the box: everything you need is already there in the distribution, meaning you don't have to spend time installing additional applications (-unless you want to) • It's based on Ubuntu, which means that the majority of software available for Ubuntu will also work on Mint • It's community based, which means that any Linux developers out there (-and there are many) can contribute to the codebase. Often, this means fixes are available quicker than distros maintained by companies (-such as Ubuntu and Fedora) - which generally only release updates twice a year

  4. Disadvantages • It is not Ubuntu! Although based on it, Mint differs in many ways from it's sibling, so not everything out there for Ubuntu will work with Mint. Also, the latest version of Mint will not be based on the latest version of Ubuntu: it is invariably some way behind (-e.g. one or two releases) • Mint has a conservative approach to new technologies so, if you like to keep up with leading edge technologies - or flashy desktops - then you may be better suited to a distro such as Fedora instead • Mint is quite large and requires a reasonably capable machine to run effectively: if your machine is particularly old (-and you can't upgrade it) then you may be better off with something like Puppy instead

  5. How to install from CD/DVD • First backup your files, if you have any • Download and burn Linux Mint to a CD • Boot from the CD and try it out • Linux Mint may take anywhere from 30 secs to 5 minutes to load, depending on your computer. • Install Just click the link on the desktop, or find it in the menu • To configure Linux Mint to be as elegant and useful as possible, check out the 'Make the Perfect Desktop article

  6. Why you would use Linux Mint13 instead of Windows 7 • Linux is customizable but Windows is not. • Linux is an open-source Operating System. People can change codes and add programs to Linux OS. you can't change any code for windows OS. You can't even see which processes do what and build your own extension. Linux wants the programmers to extend and redesign it's OS. So with open-source, you can see what happens and you can edit the OS . • Unix-like OS-Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora, SUSE Linux Enterprise, open SUSE, Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu, Mandriva Linux, Slackwire Linux and Gentoo.

  7. Recommendations • Linux mint is very easy OS for all user • This software is take very less time to install • Self and reliable • An application of power • Helping hand

  8. Conclusion • There's a lot more to learn about Linux Mint and about Linux in general. • This guide was just an overview of some of the aspects related to your desktop and by now you should feel more comfortable about using it and you should have a better understanding of some of its components. • Enjoy Linux and thank you for choosing Linux Mint.
