Sylmar High School Small Learning Community
"SLC" Small Learning Communities The theory of action of SLC implementation asserts that breaking large secondary schools into smaller communities will improve the social and affective context for students and teachers.
This is expected to result in more productive student behaviors including attendance, more parental and community involvement, improved relationships among students, staff, and parents, more personal attention, greater collaboration, more accountability and participation in leadership, stronger alignment of instruction to standards, and a stronger sense of connectedness to the world outside the school.
In turn, these are expected to produce higher student achievement and success as represented by test scores and graduation rates.
