Trauma Pearls • ALWAYS investigate the exact mechanism of injury- cannot understand true ocular risk without it! • Beware management of acute IOP rise (traumatic glaucoma) in black patients with CAIs (especially oral)… why? • ANY h/o ocular trauma (not head trauma) carries a risk of unilateral glaucoma (leading cause)

  5. Trauma Pearls • Don’t screw around if there’s a risk of an open globe! • ODs can manage the non-surgical stuff, but should be sure of ophthalmoscopy skills • R/o vitreous cells with blunt trauma! • Understand the physics of how blunt trauma damages ocular structures… • Understand angle anatomy… recession vs. narrow angle vs. other anomalous findings
