NATIONAL ROAD MAP July 2008 – August 2009 National staff & contractors will develop curriculum for webinars and Train-the-Trainer Institutes in each of the 10 FEMA regions Provide guidance and resource support to the states as they prepare for IPER training and develop a state Resource Directory
IPER PROJECT TECHNOLOGY SURVEY Target deadline: Respond online by August 15, 2008 Understanding technical capabilities available for trainers and students Ensuring that the courses are accessible to target audiences (e.g., some local government staff do not have access to computers)
STATE ROAD MAP July 2008 – August 2009 August 15, 2008 – Respond online to IPER Project Technology Survey September 15, 2008 – Assemble an Instructional Team November 15, 2008 – First submissions of information for Resource Center, and then ongoing January 15, 2009 – Cross-train Instructional Team members March 15, 2009 – Develop a promotion plan

ASSEMBLE AN INSTRUCTIONAL TEAM Target deadline – September 15, 2008 4 or 5 people from the 3 functional areas who will: Meet regularly Adapt IPER curriculum to needs of their state/territory They will be trained between August 15, 2009 and March 15, 2010
ASSEMBLE AN INSTRUCTIONAL TEAM Factors to consider: Expertise in the 3 functional disciplines Training experience Availability to attend the Train-the-Trainer Institute when offered in your region (IPER grant will reimburse travel and lodging expenses
GATHER STATE-SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR THE RESOURCE CENTER Target deadline: Ongoing, with first set of submissions due November 15, 2009 Will contain laws, regulations, contact information, etc., specific to your state Leadership Team should decide who will collect the information & report it to IPER
CROSS-TRAIN TEAM MEMBERS Target deadline: January 15, 2009 Factors to consider in identifying cross-training opportunities: FEMA offers many courses free of charge online Many state archives and emergency management agencies have training programs of their own Consider visits, facility tours, or even job shadowing
DEVELOP A PROMOTION PLAN Target deadline: March 15, 2009 State/local government staff & officials will need to be recruited to take the IPER training after the Instructional Team has attended the IPER Institute for its region Leadership/Instructional Teams should develop a specific plan to encourage participation in the training
DEVELOP A PROMOTION PLAN Factors to consider: Which groups are most important to reach with IPER training? What channels now exist for communicating with the target audiences (e.g., conferences, listservs, newsletters)
DEVELOP A PROMOTION PLAN Factors to consider, cont’d: Are there places that state/local government employees typically look for training and, if so, can the IPER training be integrated with it? Are there certification programs that would provide credit for participation in IPER training thereby increasing the incentive to participate?
