  3. Ending Preventable Sight Loss • Universal understanding causes of sight loss • Increase in people accessing regular eye examinations • Full implementation of preventative treatments

  4. Year 2 Priorities • Eye Health – work with Public Health Agency on themes of Obesity/Stroke • Implementing a pilot to secure a greater uptake of screening/special schools • Ensure equitable access to treatments. • Establishing care pathways for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy

  5. Challenge • The patient's perspective • Compliance is a challenge for patients • Approx 50% of patients fail to take their drops correctly • 25% fail to take them at all

  6. Challenge • Lack of Understanding • Difficulty instilling drops • Appointment Delays

  7. Change • Demographics - tsunami! • Cost - public spending cuts • John, Patrick, Dorothy & Claudia • Prevention • Treatment

  8. Change • Have the best services, provided locally by highly trained professionals • Work together, learning from other UK initiatives • Develop methods of communication, electronic referrals and images for early, efficient and effective intervention

  9. Change • Deliver a world class service making best use of resources in a cost effective manner • The future is in all our hands
