  18. March 2006 WASC Accreditation visit at TAS Result of visit • The team left 13 schoolwide commendations as strengths of TAS • The team left 11 schoolwide recommendations for the improvement of TAS • TAS received a two year accreditation extension

  19. TAS Response • The schoolwide Operational Plan was developed, responding to each of the 11 recommendations • Operational Plan was shared with Learning Community Council for input and was endorsed by the Board of Directors • Activities are underway to complete each of the action items

  20. Next Steps • Ensure that all 11 recommendations have been adequately addressed prior to the follow-up WASC visit in 2008. This will be done through completion of the action plans contained within the Operational Plan. • Schedule WASC follow-up visitation for the Spring of 2008

  21. College & University Matriculation Trends

  22. Matriculation Destinations • The US continues to be the country of choice: 170 students or 89% of the class headed to the US. The east and west coasts are the biggest draw: 21 = California 19 = Washington 21 = Massachusetts 15 = New York. • A handful left for other countries: 9 = Canada 4 = Australia 1 = UK 1 = Japan 1 = Hong Kong 3 = Taiwan • At least 7 students have chosen to defer or take a gap year: Travel work military language study

  25. Diversify the list of schools to which students apply Continue to use resources such as tcci Naviance, college day,, individual and small group meetings, college visitors to find the match. Goals to include small comprehensive universities, second or third tier schools, liberal arts colleges, schools in other parts of the country such as the mid west, and specialized programs. To aim for the match, rather than the reach

  27. Hope N.F. Phillips Scholarship Fund Taipei American School established the Hope N.F. Phillips Scholarship fund to provide partial scholarship to families experiencing financial difficulties. This allows students who would otherwise have to leave the school because of financial hardship to continue their education at TAS. Contributions to the Hope N.F. Phillips Scholarship Fund for 2005-2006 total NT$495,740 and the balance in this fund is NT $5,058,931.

Contributions to the Library We are pleased to report that the ending balance from the past three school years • 2003-2004 – NT $ 2,318,099 • 2004-2005 – NT $36,139,756 • 2005-2006 – NT $22,597,036 Totaling NT $61,054, 891 was allocated to the Library. Contributions made in August and September 2006, that gave us a grand total of NT$ 70,000,000 paid by the Friends of TAS to the 21st Century Library Project!

Friends of TAS Foundation Mission The Friends of TAS Foundation is a non-profit organization established to enable the Taipei American School to extend its longstanding tradition of excellence in education. Through charitable support from parents, corporations, alumni and faculty, the Friends of TAS allows the school to achieve goals that would otherwise be unattainable.
