  1. Online Dispute Resolution Portal to Improve Arbitration in India The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, during a recently held Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) conference, launched India’s first dedicated ODR portal. The portal is expected to fast track the process of dispute resolutions in the country. This will have a positive impact on the transparency of the arbitration process. Improved legislation may promote India as an investor-friendly nation, welcoming foreign investments. The National Conference on ODR was held on April 21st, 2018 and organised by the Construction Industry Arbitration Council (CIAC). It was attended by government delegates and retired secretary of the Ministry of Law & Justice, P K Malhotra. Mr.Akhilesh Srivastava, CGM (IT and Highway Operations) of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), was the man behind this initiative. The primary objective of the portal is to expedite the legal process. The system is poised to position India as one of the countries with the best strategic arbitration system. The successful implementation of the portal is another feather in Srivastava’s cap. He is the primary head of operations in the highway sector in India and is working to integrate the latest technologies into the highway operations in the country. The portal is expected to provide India with a solid legal framework and negate the fraudulent practices in the construction industry. Akhilesh Srivastava further exclaimed that this is expected to better the process in which courts in India provide justice to the withheld cases in a much faster pace. With the overwhelming importance of internet and the digital media, the implementation was the most definite and logical step which is expected to provide with efficient resolutions to the increasing disputes in the various government sectors, especially the construction industry. Mr.Akhilesh Srivastava executed his ideas into a perfect result to ensure a streamlined work flow and to promote and boost the overall economic development of the country. This initiative also is expected to pay heed to the development of the smart cities around the country. ODR will extrapolate the requirement of the techno-legal smart dispute resolution mechanism. Apart from this project, Mr.Srivastava is also giving shape to a number of other highway projects – the Traffic Incident Management System and Road Assets Management System. These projects are still in progress and are expected to contribute to the overall development of the highway sector in India.
