  4. Community Initiatives Program • $26 million per fiscal year (April 1–March 31) • Funds enhance and enrich community initiatives that provide a direct service to the community and respond to community needs and issues. • Matching grant program • New application guidelines and procedures

  5. Community Initiatives Program Three Funding Categories: 1. Project-Based Grants - maximum $75,000 2. Community Operating Grants - maximum $75,000 3. International Development Grants - maximum $25,000

Community Initiatives Program Eligible Applicants • Agricultural Societies Act • Community not-for-profit groups, charities and societies • Cemeteries Act • Child and Family Services Authorities • First Nations and Métis Settlements • Libraries, School and Post-Secondary Learning Acts • Special Act of the Parliament of Canada or Alberta Legislature

  7. Community Initiatives Program Eligible Project-Based Grants • Equipment, vehicles, furnishings • Book and resource materials • Facility construction and/or renovation • Travel, festivals and events • New programs and staffing • Start-up funding • Special funding (i.e. disaster funding)

Community Initiatives Program Project-Based Grant Highlights • $75,000 maximum per project per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31) • Matching can be any combination of cash and donated labour, services, material and/or equipment • Up to $10,000 will be considered for non-matching if financial hardship can be shown • Maximum 50% Government of Alberta funding towards the total project cost.

Community Initiatives Program Project-Based Funding Limits • Project-based grants – $75,000 maximum • Technology upgrades – $50,000 maximum • Travel – $10,000 maximum • Applicants can’t receiving funding for the same project for more than two successive years. • Core education, health, social services or religious activities are not eligible. • Gaming activities are not eligible.

Community Initiatives Program Project-Based Funding Limits (cont’d) • Playground construction or upgrades are not eligible • Endowments, debt reduction and operating costs are not eligible. • One project/operating grant and one capital grant per fiscal year from either CIP or CFEP • No retroactive funding for costs prior to application submission. Project start date should follow application submission.

Community Facility Enhancement Program • $38 million per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31) • Responds to local facility needs by protecting or developing new community facilities • Works in partnership with community groups and volunteers • Matching grant program • New application guidelines and procedures

Community Facility Enhancement Program Eligible Applicants • Municipalities (CFEP only) • Agricultural Societies Act • Community not-for-profit groups, charities and societies • Cemeteries Act • Child and Family Services Authorities • First Nations and Métis Settlements • Libraries, School and Post-Secondary Learning Acts • Special Act of the Parliament of Canada or Alberta Legislature

Community Facility Enhancement Program Eligible Projects • Capital projects (build, purchase, repair, renovate or upgrade) • Carry out major renovations and repairs to structural, electrical or mechanical systems • Modernize facilities to improve operational efficiency or enhance programming • Expand facilities to increase public use

  16. Community Facility Enhancement Program Eligible Projects (cont’d) • Develop new facilities to meet changing community needs • Conduct a planning and/or feasibility study for a capital project • Capital debt reduction • Playground construction and/or upgrades

Community Facility Enhancement Program Program Highlights • Maximum 50% of total project cost up to $125,000 per facility per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31) • Maximum 50% of Government of Alberta funding towards the total project cost • Matching can be combination of cash and donated labour, services, material and/or equipment

Community Facility Enhancement Program Funding Limits • $125,000 maximum per facility per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31) • One project/operating grant and one capital grant per fiscal year from either CIP or CFEP • Private or commercial facilities or components of a facility with limited public use are not eligible. • Facilities that provide gaming activities are not eligible.

Community Facility Enhancement Program Funding Limits (cont’d) • Endowments are not eligible. • Core education, health, religious or municipal facilities are not eligible (e.g. church sanctuaries, hospitals, municipal administration buildings, roads, utilities, etc.). • No retroactive funding for costs prior to application submission. Project start date should follow application submission.
