Health and Wellness Team • About the team • All volunteer employees (no paid positions) • 12 people…contribute when they have time • Schedule meetings as needed • Some planning done purely by email • Plan health fairs, competitions, and events (Lunch & Learns) • Our goal • Make health and wellness part of the daily conversation • Make is easier to practice a healthy lifestyle So what projects and programs have worked for us? | Health & Wellness at John Deere SEEC | May 6, 2010
Successes • Wellness Boards • Updated monthly • Typically some sort of theme • Exercise • Smoking Cessation • Living with Diabetes, etc • Articles from online or magazines, recipes, exercise tips • Wii Fit/Ping Pong table • Blood Pressure Cuff (w/ instructions and tracking charts) • Holiday Weight Challenge • Spring Health Fairs (community participants) • Biggest Loser Competition • Fitness Room/Showers | Health & Wellness at John Deere SEEC | May 6, 2010
Biggest Loser Competition • $24 buy-in (for prize money) • Drew teams from a hat • Weights stayed confidential (only losses reported) • Weekly weigh-ins • Weekly competitions (-1 lb bonus for winning team) • Jump rope • Parking lot relay • Wii bowling • Treadmill challenge • 10 week competition • Half of prize money to winning team, and half to winning individual • Metric was % loss | Health & Wellness at John Deere SEEC | May 6, 2010

Challenges and Roadblocks Problem: volunteer participation Solution: try and be flexible Problem: funding Solution: beg, fundraisers, beg more How do we define objectives that actually make a difference? • What will people actually use/participate in? • What will actually have impact? • How do we get people thinking and talking (in a positive way) about health and wellness?
