In the Early 1900’s silent movies were being used in classrooms as teaching tools The humble beginnings of the technological age!!!
The next advancement in educational technology came in the form of movies……….. that TALKED!!!!
Next Advancement…………. WORKSHEETS!!!! Teachers during this time period were easily recognizable….they all had permanently stained purple fingers from the mimeograph machines!
The 1980’s saw the rise of the overhead projector. It was marketed directly to the education community by 3-M.
Computers were first used in classrooms for games that drilled facts. Later, they were used for simulations (think Oregon Trail) and databases. By the mid-90’s schools were re-wiring for internet access.
Multi-media presentations using computers and projectors were the next big advancement in education. Teachers use these a instructional tools on a regular basis. With the addition of document cameras and “Smart Boards”, these tools started to become interactive!
And now….most new technology has the power to be interactive and involve collaboration! • Ipads/Ipods • Smart Phones • Interactive Boards • Online Communication Tools • Like Google Docs • Hand-Held Answering Devices • Like Quizdoms
