North Carolina has one of the most treacherous and rugged coastlines of the country, because of the large presence of reefs and shoals along the coast and the unpredictable state of the conditions of the oceans in the region, throughout the history of Carolina North caused many shipwrecks and maritime accidents, especially along Cape Hatteras, which has the nickname graveyard of the Atlantic (the graveyard of the Atlantic).
