EROSION NOTES EROSION: The process by which weathered rock and soil particles are moved from one place to another.
DEPOSITION • The process by which sediments are laid down in new locations
GRAVITY • Pulls rock and soil down slopes • It is also called mass wasting
WIND • Wind is most active agent of erosion in deserts, in plowed fields and on beaches • It can create sand dunes
RUNNING WATER • Running water is the major cause of erosion • Examples: • Rivers • Streams • Rain water runoff
GLACIERS • Glacial ice erodes by abrasion and by carrying sediments with them as they move
WAVES • Powerful forces of waves constantly erodes and shapes the shoreline • Creates: sea cliffs caves beaches sand bars
SEDIMENTS • solid particles carried from one place and dropped at another place.
