Some of the equations that we use are: v=d total/ t total Vave= vo +vf / 2 a= vf- vo / tf –to d=vot+1/2at2 Vf=vo + at Vf2= vo2 +2ad v represents velocity which is motion. Measured in m/s a represents acceleration which is a positive change. Measured in m/s2 vf is final velocity. vave is average velocity. vo is original velocity. t represents time. Measured in seconds d represents distance. Measured in meters. Motion
Motion • To help understand some more of motion and force you need to know about Newton’s laws: • 1st law is the Law of Inertia states that a body at rest or in motion will stay at rest or in motion until acted upon by an outside force. • 2nd law states F=ma • 3rd law states for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. • Also inertia is the reluctance of any body to change its state of motion.
Acceleration • Acceleration is a state of motion • Acceleration is a change in motion • V=_____ m/s • A= _____m/s2 • Displacement is the distance from the starting point to the end point. • Acceleration is fun. You move, which is motion.
Motion and Examples • A car going 0mph to 50mph in 3 seconds is an example of acceleration. • Here is a problem to help you learn motion: Find the velocity of a car going 700 meters in 2 seconds… • You use the equation v= d/t, 700/2 which the car has a velocity of 350 meters/second (m/s)

Momentum • Momentum is inertia in motion. • The equation for momentum is P=mv • P is momentum which is measured in kg m/s, m is mass, v is velocity. • An impulse is the change in momentum. • Ft is impulse, momentum change is m(Δ v), Δ is change in, the equation for impulse is Ft= m (Δv)
Force is represented by F and is measured in Newtons. m is mass and is measured in kgs. G is gravity and it is 9.8 or 10 depending on what you want to use. F= ma Fw= mg Ff= µFN May the FORCE be with you…. http://35heures.blog.lemonde.fr/photos/uncategorized/yoda.jpg
Force Diagrams • First off a force diagram is a drawing showing all of the forces acting on an object. • Normal forces are always directed perpendicular to the surface. • Gravitational forces are always directed down towards the surface of the Earth. http://www.phys.ttu.edu/~batcam/Courses/semester%201/Readings/UNIT%2004%20READING%20B%20NEWTON'S%20THIRD%20LAW,%20FORCE%20DIAGRAMS%20AND%20FORC_files/image006.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/08/Dooku_yoda.jpg
