The Senari Adaptation of Montessori’s Stamp Game Unlocking Addition
Materials List • Foam sheets – 1 black sheet for backing, 1 each of red, blue, and green for strips. • Headers for the strips: 1, 10, 100, etc • Addition worksheet with corresponding answer sheet from Worksheet Generator 1. • Stamps from Primary Math Manipulatives, printed on pink, blue and green paper. • Containers to hold the stamps. • Separators of ribbon or string to separate the addends.
Preparation of Materials - 1 • The Board • Black foam sheet as backing; 3” foam strips and headers glued to backing. • Units and thousands – green • Tens and ten-thousands – blue • Hundreds - red
Preparation of Materials - 2 • Problem strips • Cut a worksheet and answer sheet from the worksheet generator into horizontal rows. • With the blank sides together, staple the answer sheet and worksheet together at one end. • When student finishes, he opens the strip to check his work.
Preparation of Materials - 3 • Single problems • Cut a worksheet and answer sheet from the worksheet generator into horizontal rows. • Flip the answer sheet over and put the blank sides of the sheets together so that the problems and answers match. • On the problem side, staple each problem. • Cut the problems apart.

Addition Stamp Game - Step 1 • Set up the exercise: • Place containers with stamps over each column. • Place a ribbon to indicate space for carrying • Get problem or strip of problems.
Addition Bank Game - Step 2 • Set up the problem • Make the first addend with stamps • Place a separator below the 1st addend. • Make the 2nd addend. • Continue the process until the student has made each addend. • Be sure each addend is separated from the others.
Addition Bank Game - Step 3 • Step 3: • Place another ribbon below the second addend. • Keep that sense of order!

Addition Bank Game - Step 5 • Step 5 - Exchanging • Count all the pieces in the units column. • When you get to 10, exchange them for 1 ten piece. Put it in the carrying space. • Repeat with the tens and hundreds columns.
Addition Bank Game - Step 6 • Step 6 - Completing the Exchange • Always begin with the units column, and continue to the left. • The carrying space of a column should be included in the count.
Addition Bank Game - Step 7 • Step 7 - Completing the Answer • When complete, each column should have less than 9 pieces in it. • Write the answer on the worksheet section.
Addition Bank Game - Step 8 • Checking the Answer • When the problem is complete, the student checks the answer. • If an answer is incorrect, the student should be able to find his mistake.
