THE SCIENCE AND ART OF PRAYER: Nature, Dynamics & Power Contents • Introduction • Definition and basic Assumptions • Prayer in my personal Experience • Theory • Practice • Applications: Medical Practice • Conclusion
I. INTRODUCTION • Basic postulate: To understand anything, you must relate it to your personal experience. • Sources of Information: the spiritual Tradition, the Orthodox Church, Psychosynthesis– my personal Experience. • Essential thesis: Prayer is the single most important skill for the 21st Century… because it connects us with Reality (inner: Self, outer: God), activates our intuition, awakens our spiritual consciousness and enables us to discover and draw upon the spiritual Self, the inexhaustible Source of Life, Love, and Wisdom. • Prayer is the highest form of Energy, or Life, which is the most precious Gift we have!
II. Definition and basic Assumptions • There are as many definitions of Prayer (Meditation, spiritual Exercises) as there are religious and spiritual traditions. • My definition: Prayer is a psychospiritual process by which we can consciously reconnect with our Self & God to know and do His Will rather that that of our ego, to become truly alive and our whole Self! • Core objective: Make Prayer become conscious and alive. Develop your own Model. • Scientists and Mystics now agree: Reality (God and Man) are made up of energies and vibrations. God is a Spirit and Spirit is Energy and Vibrations which manifest as Life. • What human beings want more than anything is Life, which is energy and vibrations. Prayer is the royal way to gain more energy and thus become more alive! • To move from thought to experience, from the exoteric to the esoteric, from the unconscious to the conscious viewpoint we need understand, master, and integrate the following assumptions:
CORE ASSUMPTIONS • Understand: the analogy Macrocosm (World)/Microcosm (Man). • The nature and dynamics of symbols, analogies, and archetypes. • The image and analogy of Man-the-Sky-scraper. • Have a theory of human nature and a model of the psyche • Learn the structure and functions of the psyche and the use of the “Muscles of human consciousness” • Understand and apply the symbol of the Trinity • Transform and raise consciousness on the horizontal and vertical axes… so as to bring down the Light and raise consciousness!
III. PRAYER IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE • Childhood: lived in two worlds • At 15 years: Destiny and the USA • Crucial encounters: Lydie, Padre Pio, Theotokus • Motorcycle accident at 23 • Healing through Prayer • Role of Prayer in my Life • Candida and discovery of “Matter” • Application of Prayer to medical practice: GHC!
IV. THEORYThe Science and Art of Prayer • The nature of Prayer: what it is • The functions of Prayer: how it works • Example of basic Prayers • What makes Prayer come alive • The essential secret of Prayer • Preliminary training and discipline • How to integrate prayer in your daily life
V. PRACTICECore Insights and Tools • It is in praying that we learn to pray! • Not what we say but how we say it—Faith is the essence • Know and use the structure and functions of the psyche: 5 “Muscles” • Human effort and divine grace • Silence and Theurgy • Love Vitamin Generator: holistic ritual • Prayer is the food of our soul!
VI. APPLICATIONS:Medical Practice • Prayer touches every aspect of facets of our lives and being in that it deals with consciousness. • Thus, it can be applied to all the areas of life and to all academic disciplines • In particular, I have linked Prayer with medical practice in that the first step on the spiritual path is Healing and because Health is our most precious treasure • See: GHC and Medicine and Spirituality
VII. CONCLUSION • For me, prayer is, unquestionably, the essential skill to learn for the 21st Century. • Were I to have a choice of learning or taking one thing with me, it would be Prayer! • Why is Prayer so important at this time? There are many reasons: • It reconnects us with Reality (outer and Inner) • It feeds the most important part of our being and consciousness. • It helps us to rediscover and draw upon our divine spark– the inner inexhaustible Source of Life, Love and Wisdom. • It is the highest and ultimate form of Life and Energy… which can makes us come more alive. • It touches and activates our ontological attributes—to know, to love, and to create! • It helps us to understand what is incomprehensible, to accept what is unacceptable, and to do what is impossible– to go from the horizontal to the vertical dimension. • It redirects our consciousness from our ego and will to God and His Will. Thus bringing harmony: health and peace, meaning and purpose, serenity and joy in our being and lives!
Essential points to elaborate and reflect upon • Prayer is not a psychotechnology to get what we want, it is a process by which we discover and align with God’s Will. • Prayer affects the Life or Energy component of our being, hence consciousness! • Specifically, prismated through our consciousness it affects it in 3 ways: • Through the Head as Light: Wisdom. • Through the Heart as Fire: Love. • Through the Shoulders as Life: Will, Energy • Prayer activates our intuition and awakens out spiritual consciousness • Prayer enables us to answer the most fundamental questions of life: Enigma of the Sphinx, my destiny, what is true Knowledge, Good and Evil, health, vocation, relationships. • Prayer consciously accelerates our evolution and helps us to grow, mature, and make progress. • Prayer is a great Mystery and Paradox, both known and unknown, conscious and unconscious, personal and transpersonal, male & female!
