What makes you feel good?Building Health PartnershipsPartnership Two summary #BHPselfcare
Introduction On the 4th of December 2017 the Humber, Coast and Vale Building Health Partnership (BHP) group held it’s second partnership meeting at the Brough Community Centre to: • Hear from local groups supporting health and wellbeing • Develop an action plan for research with each group to demonstrate benefit, and measure impact • Plan the final session on 14 March The meeting was designed to build upon what came out of the first partnership session (see here for presentation and summary) and core group meetings to date. The session was attended by representatives from voluntary and community organisations, local authorities and NHS from across the Sustainability and Transformation Partnership area. These slides are a record of the meeting and will be used by the core group to plan the next phase of activities.
BHP plans for 2018 The core group has decided to use the remainder of the BHP programme to carry out research with four local organisations to better understand how to: • demonstrate benefit • measure impact and • communicate the health and social value of local voluntary and community organisations. Hearing from local projects Since the first partnership meeting four local projects/organisations were identified to be part of this research. We heard from some of these projects during the session: • Withernsea Men in Sheds, a project that supports men who want to get together to share and learn new wood-working skills. Withernsea men in sheds provide a workshop, tools, equipment and a development worker for support. • Fitmum and Friends are friendly, sociable and supportive running and walking clubs. • Castaway Goole, a charity that works to enable adults and young people with learning and physical disabilities, autism spectrum conditions or mental health difficulties to access high quality arts opportunities. • Smashers of Sancton table tennis club • Selby furniture store, a charity to recycle good second-hand furniture to households in need and provide work experience to unemployed people, repairing and up-grading furniture. “If we get mums and dads to do it, young kids will want to do it too!” Sam Barlow, Fitmum and Friends
Planning how to demonstrate benefit & measure impact With the research projects in mind, we asked participants to think about what outcomes were important for which audiences:
Research planning In the final part of the session, we asked participants to work in groups to develop plans for each piece of research. We asked: • What you will do? Who? When? • What information will you collect? • What will it tell us? • What support/additional resource do you need? • What’s your very first step?
Next steps • Research is being undertaken in partnership with 4 organisationsbetween Jan 2017 and March 2018 • The final meeting will take place on Wednesday 14th March, 12.30-4pm, Partnership 4 session (venue tbc)
