Last Journey • July 16, 1945 • Began voyage from San Francisco to Tinian • 5,000 mile trip to island near Japan

Journey cont. • July 26, 1945 • Continues its trip by heading to Guam
Journey • July 28, 1945 • Leaves Guam and heads for the Philippines • 1,500 miles from Guam
Journey • July 29, 1945 • Captain ceased use of “zigzagging” • Zigzagging - Used to evade any exposure to the enemy
Sunk • July 30, 1945 • Japanese torpedoes hit the cruiser • Sunk in 12 minutes with 300 men still in the ship • 900 men were dumped into the Pacific
Sunk • July 30, 1945 • No distress signal was sent because the mission was top secret
