What is your task at hand? • THE 2010-2011 OBJECTIVE IS… to incorporate chemistry by choosing an element to feature in your project. The final step should perform an action that demonstrates how the element is used in our everyday lives. IYC (International Year of Chemistry) 2011 provides a unique opportunity to embrace chemistry’s important contributions to the quality of our lives: the economy, health and medicine, energy efficiency, a cleaner environment, national security, communications, food safety, clean water and much more. The IYC slogan captures ACC’s (American Chemistry Council) views perfectly: “Chemistry: our life, our future.”
What’s a Rube Goldberg Machine Anyway? Watch this… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RouXygRcRC4
There are 6 Phases to this Project: Phase 1: Parental Consent Form (Due next Thursday.) Phase 2: Rube Goldberg Essay Phase 3: Labeled and numbered Sketch Phase 4: Research Paper Phase 5: Project Paper Phase 6: Machine brought to school and presented to class (School and County Competition) *We will start this week and the whole process is over in March.*
This is a BIG project, so think about having a partner (within this class). But, choose carefully. You may work alone. But, if you choose a partner, (once you choose a partner and you and your parents return the signed “Parental Consent Form”), you MUST stick with that partner. Take home your Rube Goldberg Packet on Monday (you will receive all paperwork then) and discuss this project with your parents.
