Master Trainer’s Contribution • Saksham has trained a total of 719 Master Trainers (with Induction and Refresher training) so far. • Saksham presently has a pool of 499 available Master Trainers • Saksham MTs have so far trained 14,052 HIV/AIDS counsellors and 24x7 PHC nurses located in: -ICTCs, - FICTCs - ART - STI - PPP - TI - Mobile ICTCs
Challenges in building the pool of Master Trainers • MTs are persons associated with Saksham. Majority of them are working in paid jobs elsewhere. • Most dropout Master Trainers were unable to give their time for regular training sessions over the four year period • Most MTs were unable to get four days leave for the refresher trainings planned by Saksham
Plans for future - Master Trainers • More focus on understanding social drivers of the epidemic- gender, sexuality, stigma, social exclusion and marginalization, migration, gender based violence, and such others to engage with vulnerability issues • Lack of thrust on counselling for linkages with appropriate services- TB, STIs- treatment adherence counselling, preventing loss to follow up • Enhancement of skills in the use of ‘self’ in the counselling process • Enhancement of skills in counselling couples, from TI, MSM, migrant populations
