Chapter 2 Learning Objectives • Students will be able to explain the driving restrictions for a driver with a learner’s permit, examination permit and probationary license. • Students will be able to demonstrate and complete a driver vision screening to test vision ability to pass the state vision requirement.
NJ Driver Testing Chapter 2
Driver License Testing Requirements Written Exam – Individual must score at least 80% (40 of 50 questions correct) Vision Exam – Individual must have at least 20/50 vision with or without corrective lenses. Activity: Get a partner. Get a vision card and piece of tape from the teacher. Tape the card to the wall at eye height. Stand approximately 6 feet from where you taped the card. Put one hand over your left eye and read line 3. Put one hand over your right eye and read line 4. How did you do? Now switch. Have your partner repeat the process but read the letters backwards so that they are in a different order. You must be able to read up to line 3 to pass your vision exam!
Testing Requirements continued… 3. Road Test Vehicle Requirements: -Valid Inspection Sticker -Valid Registration -Valid Insurance Card -Nothing blocking examiner from reaching parking or foot brake -Test taker must have a permit and supervising driver -Can the car be a manual transmission? YES! (Driver must display proper shifting)
Road Test Items: Activity:In your groups, can you create a list of all the items you will be tested on when you go to take the road test for your probationary license? Driving in reverse Following other vehicles Nearing corners, intersections Parallel Parking Sitting Properly Starting Properly Steering Properly Stopping at signs Stopping Smoothly Turning K-Turns Horn use Yielding
If you can do all those things correctly… You will Pass!!!!
If you don’t pass… You must wait at least 2 weeks before you may re-take the road test. After several failures, you may be required to wait 6 months.
If you don’t fail…your car could Bald tires Brakes or parking brakes not working Interior too dirty Fast Engine Idle Missing seatbelts
