About us • Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people. We are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change. • Crisis is the national lead on using the private rented sector as a housing option for homeless people.
Aims of the Programme • To develop new and expand current community based voluntary sector services that meet the housing needs of single homeless people. • Provide access to sustainable accommodation in the private rented sector (PRS). • Each service is delivered with strategic involvement from the local authority and other community partners.
Achievements Establishing c.153 new PRS services through three funding rounds over the four year Programme and tackling specific issues in the sector or in particular priority geographical areas Tenancy sustainment of 89% Identifying, developing and promoting best practice Supporting local agencies to develop proposals and viable operational models, providing active ongoing support to ensure schemes’ effectiveness and help resolve any issues as they arise.
New funding for Crisis Private Renting Crisis will receive £1 million from the Department of Communities and Local Government to continue its work to help single homeless people find a home in private rented accommodation. Crisis will use the money to develop eight schemes across England which will work with local landlords to create more rooms for rent in shared accommodation. These will be selected through competitive bids from existing schemes on the Crisis Private Rented Sector Access Development Programme. Crisis will be inviting applications over the summer.
Meet today's Schemes • Russell Ainslie - The Whitechapel Centre joined the Crisis PRS Access Development Programme in March 2011 and now runs three PRS access schemes in Liverpool and across Merseyside working with rough sleepers and those with a history of homelessness. • Steve Cole - CAYSH started their first Crisis funded private rented project in February 2011 and now delivers services in Croydon and Sutton to assist young people (under 25) who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
