  2. Trainee solicitors: web-based Training RecordTool for SRA complianceTool for trainee development and performance reviewsA new approach within an existing area

  3. Regulatory context: SRA Training Regs 2011 • Firm must ensure trainees keep a ‘regular’ & ‘adequate’ training record (Reg 6.1(b)) • Training Principals must ensure trainees keep training record (Reg 15.2(e)) • Training record must cross-refer to the SRA’s Practice Skills Standards (Reg 6.1(b) & Guidance Note (iii)) • Supervisors must ensure coverage against SRA’s Practice Skills Standards (Reg 16.3(a)) and that trainee keeps training record (Guidance Note (f))

  4. Trainees prefer Online Mentor! • “I thought the software was fantastic. Previously when keeping a trainee log I found it difficult and time consuming to identify whether the SRA requirements had been satisfied. The tick boxes on the software have saved me a lot of time. As a result of the time I saved I updated my trainee log more frequently than I otherwise would have done” • “I think the software was extremely useful. The options to link activity to skills standards were far better than the manual sheet as the “what did you learn” column is quite difficult to fill in. This was much easier than manual recording and I think more trainees are likely to record on a more regular basis using this software.” • “I found Online Mentor extremely useful. I set aside 30 minutes each Friday and it meant that I was able to record exactly what I did in that week concisely and accurately. I found this especially useful as I did not realise that we were meant to be keeping a training contract record!”
