  5. In 2009, holiday sales represented 19.1% of total retail industry sales. In that same year, consumers spent on average $740 for Christmas presents.

  6. “ I first came in because of the name. Serendipity. It’s one of my favorite words. It has such a nice sound to what it means: a fortunate accident.” Sara (played by Kate Beckinsale)

  7. Serendipity 3 is located on 225 E. 60 St. near Bloomingdales, where Jonathan and Sara meet.

  8. Like the whimsical design of Serendipity 3, the movie is a fun, light-hearted, romantic comedy.

  9. This area was actually not filmed in Serendipity 3, but in a studio due to the actual area being too small.

  13. Skating on Wollman Rink is a winter tradition for New Yorkers and tourists alike. For Jonathan (John Cusak) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale), Wollman Rink becomes one of the memorable locations for their date after their second serendipitous encounter.

  14. The rink was closed in 1980 for an announced 2 1/2 years of renovations. When the work was not completed by 1986, Donald Trump persuaded Mayor Ed Koch to let him complete the work.
