CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability Introduction According to the 2017 WSP submissions, there were approximately 1 437 employees with disabilities working in the Chemical Sector out of 169 181 total workforce in the sector.This equates to 0.8% of total employment in the sector: Overall slow movement in this area of transformation within the sector! Stakeholders through the CHIETA Chambers, noted the difficulty of employing people with disabilities in certain occupations due to health and safety requirements and to a certain extent, minimal understanding by the employer of key concepts and legislative requirements around employing people with disabilities, particularly difficult in key production occupations. The CHIETA in consultation with the Chambers, identified a need to develop a Disability Toolkit to assist with understanding disability in the workplace
CHIETA, The Catalyst for Enhanced Skills, Economic Growth and Employability Purpose of the People living with Disabilities Toolkit To assist the chemical sector companies, achieve but not limited to: Meeting legislative imperatives Develop a working definition of disability for the chemical sector Assist companies with handling disability in the workplace Understanding reasonable accommodation, issues of sensitivity, discrimination Increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities IMPORTANT NOTES: This PWD Toolkit is aimed at providing the user with a tool to better understand the working environment and conditions related to people with disabilities in the workplace and should not be used as a Labour Relations Tool. Notes, examples, tools and guidelines are provided as a reference only and not as a regulatory stance by the CHIETA.
