  1. First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG Grid of jobs prepared for non standart OSs by means of virtualization.I.Gorbunov, A.Kryukov                      SINP MSU, Moscow

  2. Prerequisites • Many grid users feel need for using operating systems differing from Linux. • all nodes in EGEE/RDIG Grid operate under ScientificLinux 3/4. • One of the ways to solve this problem is virtualization First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  3. Virtualization • We have tasted many different virtualization products such as QEMU, Xen, VMWare and so on. • We choosed Xen because of its great performance andfacilities. First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  4. Xen • Xen is a virtual machine monitor (VMM) for x86-compatible computers. It is built to securely execute multiple virtual machines, each running its own operating system, on a single physical system with close-to-native performance. Xen is open source, and is released under terms of the GNU General Public License. Xen is a hypervisor that runs directly on the system hardware, using it’s own drivers. First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  5. Implementation • At the moment we have created virtual test bed with one CE and two WNs running on it. • On our WNs we have running virtualized OSs. • On this OSs we have ssh RSA public keys of WNs. • Using ssh we can now run our jobs on this virtualized OSs. • CPU overhead is not more then 10% in para-virtualization mode First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  6. First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  7. Our plans • In the future we are going to develop this work. • Job manager on CE will be modified. They will backing workspace support manager. First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  8. Work plot • User points out to software-OS tag, corresponding to unfolding ability of virtualization machine • RB using BDII finds having aforementioned tag and free WNs CE • On CE the task processes with modified Job Manager and finally runs on required virtualized OS First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  9. First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG

  10. Conclusion • We have created prototype of the system that will permit us to use abilities of nowadays grid for submitting jobs that demand on operating systems different from Scientific Linux. First experience of submission to the EGEE/RDIG
