ETSI Conformance and Interoperability Testing Jørgen Friis VP ETSI SES (Standards Enabling Services)
Highlight of Current Activities (1) • By end of 2011 13 Plugtests (standards validation) in the following areas: • Automotive (ITS) • Machine-to-Machine Communication (M2M) • Electronic Signatures XAdES, PaDES (ESI) • DECT-iq (DECT) • Optical Fibre Networks (ATTM) • eHealth • Femtocells • Mobile applications • International TTCN-3 User Conference (Bled, June 2011) • International Model-based Testing User Conference (Berlin, October 2011)
Highlight of Current Activities (2) • Conformance Test Specifications included: • LTE UE Test Specs for GCF Certification • IMS NNI including RCS, some ENUM and EPC • ePassport Readers • ITS G5 tests and test platform • eCall • IPTV Updates • Maritime • Eurotoll • DIAMETER Security Protocols • Smart Cards Secure Channels
Highlight of Current Activities (3) • Update of ETSI validation handbook • ETSI EG, portal.etsi.org/mbs/ • Testing platform for e-passport reader • ETSI TR, TTCN-3 test suite, white paper • TTCN-3 tool conformance testing • ETSI TS, TTCN-3 test suite • Methodology & framework for automated interoperability testing • ETSI EG, training material, white paper
Highlight of Current Activities (4) • IMS NNI interoperability for VoLTE and RCS • ETSI TS, TTCN-3 test suite • ENUM verifications according to IR.67 • Tool support for automatic test verification • IMS, EPC conformance testing • ETSI TS, TTCN-3 test suite • IMS/NGN Performance benchmarking • ETSI TS, Core Concepts, Subsystem Configurations and Benchmarks, Traffic Sets and Traffic Profiles, Reference Load network quality parameters • IMS Security Testing • Collaboration with GSMA, MSF on interoperability Events
Strategic Direction (1) • New technical areas of interoperability events: • Internet of Things • M2M • Co-operative Systems (ITS) • Co-existence (e.g., ADSL-PLT) • Location Based Services • SmartGrid
Strategic Direction (2) • Evaluate new technologies for testing • Notations for higher level test descriptions • Model-based testing • Testing beyond conformance • Robustness testing (security) • Performance testing
Challenges • Finding resources and expertise • Involving other Technical Bodies early in evaluation of new testing technologies
Next Steps / Actions • Develop interop activities to include • Cross-Technology Evaluations • Co-existence assessment • E.g., spectrum sharing • Increase amount of remote participation • Support of Green Agenda • Continue to build partnerships
ETSI TC MTS SCOPE of the Technical Committee Methods for Testing and Specification (MTS) creates guidelines, frameworks, notations, and methodologies for specification and testing to help other ETSI committees to efficiently develop their standards and test specifications.TC MTS cooperates closely with ETSI’s Center for Testing & Interoperability (CTI).
