2008 -Wales Enjoys an Export Boom • THE VALUE of exports from Wales experienced double digit growth • the value of exports from Wales for the four quarters up to and including Q3 2008 rose by £1.28bn compared to the previous four quarters – up from £9bn to £10.3bn. • The rise on the year of 14.1%, was higher than the UK average of 11.6%. • This was made up of an increase in exports to EU countries of £701m (up 12.8%), as well as an increase in exports to non-EU countries – up £579m or 16.1%. • In value terms America is the most important export market for Welsh companies. For the year to Q3 they were worth £2.2bn, a rise of 12.5% on the previous year. • The biggest year-on-year increase were exports to Norway where they were up 82.1%, having risen from £44m to £79m. • Metals, energy, chemicals, engineering and automotive account for 75% of Welsh exports, compared to 59% for the UK.
