Reminders (2 min) • Electronic Devices: I see it, I take it. • Student Movement: Assigned seat at all times. • Irrelevant Errand Pass: One person at a time. • Hall Passes: 3 passes with permission. No pass, no leaving (unless bleeding profusely) • End of Day: don’t pack up until told, empty trash, table entirely clean, everyone seated in assigned seat, not dismissed until told. • Stamps: important for binder checks. • Homework = SUCCESS

  4. Semester Two Essential Skills (1 min) • Essential Skill #2.1 (Genetics) • Essential Skill #2.2 (Development) • Essential Skill #2.3 (Physiology) • Essential Skill #2.4 (Evolution) • Essential Skill #2.5 (Ecology) • Essential Skill #2.6(Lab Reports)

Biology Binders (2 min) • Don’t lose papers (organization = success!) • Table of Contents • Space to write down inserted worksheets • Homework Planner (remove this if you have one) • Unit 4 (Units 5-8 added later) • Project – Trial by Child • Each day = same structure • Unit 4 Binder Check (stamps!!!)

  6. A Day in Unit 4 (1 min) • Quickly enter class, sit down. • Homework at center of table. Stamp! • Begin “Daily Question”. Stamp! • Not Working = Tardy • Box today’s objective(s). • Brief “Reading” analysis. Stamp!

  7. A Day in Unit 4 (cont.) (2 min) • “Teacher Notes” on left • My PowerPoint notes • “Student Practice” on right • Practice problems • “Lecture Activity” • Space for activity. Stamp! • “Project Activity” • Space for activity. Stamp! • “Homework” –Assigned YouTube video • Notes, Answers to Questions • “Mini Quiz” • End of every day, mini quiz that covers BOTH the homework and lecture. Grade in class.

  8. Homework (2 min) • CRITICAL: DO THE YOUTUBE VIDEO HOMEWORK • Short: generally 15 minutes long. No excuses! • No internet? After school, before school, lunch. No excuses! • Don’t do the homework? You will fail this semester. It is the BASIS for the lecture. • Videos are posted at least two days before assigned, so you can stay ahead if you want.

Projects (1 min) • EVERY SINGLE day includes a project. • Project #1 – Trial by Child (1/15 – 2/7) • Project #2 – T.M.I (2/8 – 2/26) • Project #3 – Eggsistential Dilemma (2/27 – 3/29) • Exhibition • Project #4 – Live Free, Die Hard, Live Again (4/9 – 5/17) • Project #5 – Wormy Vermi-Composting (5/20 – 5/31) • MUST be accountable, on time, and make quality work in order to succeed. Easy to fall behind and this will result in failure.

Collaboration and Justification (6 min) • “Trial by Child” (Project #1) – Genetics & Human Development • Pairs – fill out the Collaboration Justification and Contract • Who would you like to work with? (30 seconds) • THREE REASONS (2, 1, 0 = not approved) • Read the contract CLOSELY and sign. • NOT a guarantee. I will take into account past behavior, attitude, and semester 1 grade.

End of Day Procedure (1 min) • Don’t pack up until you are told to. • You will cause the rest of class to stay for as many minutes as you disrupt my lesson. • One person empties mini trash can into class garbage & returns to seat. • All tables: ENTIRELY clean, trashes empty, & students sitting w/ legs under the table. • Not dismissed until I tell you that you may leave.
