  1. Working Together as EqualsSteve Chapman and Jo Kidd www.skillnetgroup.co.uk

  2. Steve Chapman • My name is Steve and I work for the Skillnet Group. • I am involved in different types of work. • My main role is about making sure more people with learning difficulties can get jobs.

  3. Jo Kidd • My name is Jo Kidd and I also work for the Skillnet Group. • My job is about making sure the Skillnet Group runs properly and that everyone is working towards our vision. • Our vision is that people with learning difficulties are treated as equals and have better lives.

  4. Who’s view is the most important?

  5. Remember… • Everyone has the right to have their views heard and taken seriously as long they do not hurt others. • We should all respect each other. • But not all views are good and not all decisions are right!!!

  6. Who makes the Decisions in the Skillnet Group? • In the Skillnet Group we all work together as equals. • Some people have more work to do and some people have more responsibility. • But we all make decisions and have a say about how the Skillnet Group runs and changes.

  7. People with learning difficulties are involved in all parts of the Skillnet Group. This includes: • Planning and developing new projects, • Recruiting staff, • Deciding about the money, • The day to day running and • Checking how we are doing.

  8. Everything we do is based on self-advocacy. • We have different teams and projects in the Skillnet Group. • Each team has planning meetings and team days so that everyone’s views are taken seriously.

  9. Each team and project works on their own action plan every year. • These feed into the big Skillnet Group plan that lasts for 3 years. • The Decision Team checks that the things in the big plan are happening.

  10. The Decision Team is made up equally of people with learning difficulties and people without. • Decision Team Officers represent their area or project. • Decision Team Officers get paid for this work. • This is like our ‘management committee’.

  11. We also have a Board of Trustees • People have to apply to be a trustee. • Jo and Steve are both on the Board. • We want more self-advocates who are Decision Team Officers to apply.

  12. The Decision Team tells the trustees about the plans and decisions from all over the Skillnet Group. • The trustees make sure that we are using the money properly and that we are not breaking the law.

  13. Being inclusive means being part of a team where everyone is respected equally!
