What is VIP? • Quality work program • Assists students in transition from school-to-career • Student can begin career immediately after high school or complete post-secondary training • After high school, follow ups regarding student placement and achievement are tracked for Internship students

  3. Requirements of the Student • Identified career major • Completion of 2 units in the career major • At least 2.0 GPA • Acceptable attendance record • Written recommendations • Membership in student youth organization • Serious desire to learn more about the field • Availability to work the required hours for credit • Transportation to and from the internship site

  4. On-the-Job Work Experience • Must work minimum of 180 hours per semester • 12-20 hours per week • Must have 20 hours of contact time with Internship teacher to develop career portfolio, complete work site forms, career assessments, develop a plan after high school, and classroom discussion.

  5. Intern Sites • Must be approved by Intern Coordinator • Cannot be in a private residence • Must have at least 2 or more adults employed • A family member cannot sponsor the internship • An Internship cannot involve prohibited activities • Transporting money • Traveling more than 10% of the time • Working in a field that is considered hazardous

  6. Community • We need community involvement • Employers to employ Interns • Help with survey for implementation • Need addresses of potential Employers of Interns • Need survey to be filled out and returned for our Program Proposal • Serve as a source for on-going development of Internship positions that match career majors • Help with awards and special recognition for both Interns and Employers at the end of the year

  7. 2008-2009 Possible Interns • Need Placements for: • Dental Hygienist • Pharmacist • Farming • Mechanic • Construction • Cosmetology • Nursing • Law • Physical Therapy • Engineer • Ministry • Park Ranger
