  1. 21st Century Research Skills

  2. Start with a reliable search engine, like Google.com or Yahoo.com. • Be precise with the terms that you are searching for, but remember that capital letters are generally not needed. Using the Web for Research

  3. Putting quote marks around terms forces the search engine to give you exactly those words in that order. • Putting a plus sign between words asks the search engine to find information that includes both words. • Example: If you want information on Paris, Texas, but not Paris Hilton or Paris, France, type paris+texas. Narrowing Your Search

  4. Which of these sources might be more trustworthy? Why? Are there any commercial or .com sites that can be trusted? Top-Level Domains Glossary

  5. Wikipedia is NOT a trusted site. Each work on Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, with content added from people with a range of ─ or no ─ credentials. • And remember, Google is a search engine, not a Web site and cannot be used or cited as a source. No Wikipedia!
