A. What is Environmental Science The study of the interaction of all living and non-living things on our planet 2. Goal is to get people to see their actions affect the world and to take that into account when making a decision
B. The Earth • We live on a section of the environment called earth, as in land not the planet.
3. Earth consists of three layers a. Lithosphere- aka the crust, the top layer, where rocks are found 1. Thinnest layer; about 10 to 70 km thick 2. Has sedimentary, igneous(lava), and metamorphic(marble) rocks
b. Mantle- 70 to 2900 km deep 1. Considered solid but the crust floats and flows on it. c. Core- 2900 km deep 1. Molten iron with a solid center
