ITMG 350 ipad project Dr. Rebman SPRING 2014
Course Overview • A management-oriented overview of information systems with an emphasis on ways to analyze and use information technologies from the perspective of a business professional. • Topics include: • international competitive uses of information systems; • various ways of using information technologies in business processes, products, and services; • impacts of information systems on the productivity of individuals and organizations; • alternative methods for building information systems; • factors leading to successful implementation of information systems; • and threats and risks associated with information systems.
Original Proposal/Expectations • To examine emerging technologies and their impacts and achieve strategic advantage • One focus would be on examination of the potential of the iPad in a classroom setting • Investigating different applications for classroom adoption • Potential for note-taking capture and researching supplemental textbook information • Many companies use iPads for use in operational processes and data collection • Students would gain experience with capturing data and then using programs to process the data
How did mobile technology/Apps enhance teaching and learning? • Compared traditional assignment and repeated with flipboard • Conduct a short research analysis on the specific year provided to you in class (i.e. 2014,2013, 2012 etc) Consumer Electronics Show http://ces.cnet.com . • See if you can notice any new trends and then write a 2-3 page summary of your own personal analysis regarding which trends appear to most likely to be successful. • You should also include a discussion on information technology adoption both from a company and personal perspective.
FLIPBOARD ASSIGNMENT RESULTS • Matias http://flip.it/4FMv2 • Shannon McManus http://flip.it/6lrwA • Zach http://flip.it/vPGu7 • Taylor Trayner http://flip.it/Cuacy • Daniel Hagen http://flip.it/QkFZ5
Details- Student Instruction • Students were directed to research applications • ShannonStudy Blue • TaylorTrello • MatiasMyScript • DanGoogle Earth • ZachLumonsity • NoemyNumbers • Other apps • NetAnalyzer • Coverage Map • MS Dynamics CRM App • Prezi
Important Lessons Learned • iPad was used to purchase book for the class
Important Lessons Learned • Study Blue App helped with learning material
Current Project • iMovie project • Interviewing students on use and/or possible use of iPads in the classroom • Creating a USD Bucket list • iBook • Will be using iBook Author to make a ‘mini’ book of their final exam
Limitations • Regular classroom had computer access thus negating need for ipad device • Ipad devices could not project wirelessly onto screen (only instructor) • Still never found a good direct iPad to iPad connection (had to use a third source..website or app) • Drop box was not a real fluid/ease of use method of file transfer
Lessons Learned • iPads could be used as a textbook replacement • iPads were helpful when engaging in Lab Activities • The ipad did not work so much as a replacement of other classroom instruction tools but rather an enhancement • The ipad definitely helped with making better presentation of material • iMovie results not currently completed • iBook results not currently completed
