  2. Jenn’s words of advice… • Its all about composure and believing in yourself • The judge guides you-they want you to do well! • One fact impresses the judge (when I got it out, it gave me confidence.)

  3. Jenn continued… • Read fully – you have enough time • Make eye contact a lot – enjoy yourself • If you write out the performance indicators and point to them – you already get 5 points!

  4. Details/logistics… • You will be leaving at 11:15 am from your period 5 class (adjusted schedule given Ash Wednesday mass) • Before school, drop off your bags in my room • Parents will arrive at 11:30 am to transport us to the Radisson (NO student drivers!) • Drivers: Mrs. Drollette, Mrs. LeBeau, Mrs. Carlin, Mr. Ward, Mrs. Vazzana, Mrs. Roemer, and Mrs. McNiffe

  5. Bring!! • Job Interview – 8 copies of your resume • Sales – your product! • Entrepreneurial papers – 3 copies of your paper (one for you to read?) • Photo ID • Sharpened pencils • Calculators (for tests) we provide

  6. Logistics continued… • You may dress down on Wednesday – • DECA t-shirt and jeans • Suggest- pack one business outfit for opening ceremony and role-plays(two blouses, stockings, knee length skirt, closed toed shoes) • One “business casual outfit” for leadership academies • Questions about clothing?

  7. Packing essentials  • Pack water and snacks! • Lunch for Wednesday!! • Pick up is Friday at 11:00 am from Radisson hotel entrance – be respectful of chaperones – must be picked up by parent! • Not expected to return to school that day

Leadership Academies • Opportunity to meet new friends – enjoyable, entertaining, and beneficial – it is what you make of it • Leadership Academies – required to attend 4 of 5 that are offered – various times and themes • Signature is required at each session, I forward to DECA officials at end of conference • 4 sessions are waived if you make the finals

  9. Cell phones • Must leave in room for tests and role-plays! • New – are not allowed to use them at opening or award ceremonies – leave in room • This year, we will be collecting them at the ceremonies

  10. Wednesday Schedule • Arrive – rooms? • Family meeting and walking tour  • 2:30 judge session in the Radisson • 4:00 check in boards and video • 4:00 pm family picture • 4:00 pm Opening ceremony and dinner • 6:30 pm role-plays start (JI, sales, papers) • 8:00 pm – tests • (I am proctoring from 7:00 pm – midnight) • 11:00 pm curfew – sign paper

  11. Thursday • 7:15 am – finalists listed for Job Interview, Sales demo, and papers • Role-plays begin 8:00 am • Julie and I will be available to assist with prep • Leadership Academies • 6:00 pm dinner and NYS Award ceremony • 9:30 pm dance  • 11:00 pm curfew

  12. Friday • 7:00 am breakfast • 8:00 am National award ceremony – top 4 or 5 qualify for Nationals • Nationals – Orlando, April 29th – May 4th (quick turn around time, $700) • (finishes around 10:00 am) • Clean and pack – pick up at 11:00 am
